Apparently they may be considering it even more seriously than I first thought. I applaud this action by California; it is not often that I can say that. Watch the video and let me know what you think.

  1. You have to wonder what the people running California are smoking! Here is a state on the verge of bankruptcy and their big plan is too get everybody stoned!

California is sitting with billions of dollars in revenue just off its coast. The International Herald Tribune carried a United Press International story on Jan. 30, 2009 indicating an agreement between some environmental groups and oil companies to begin offshore drilling.

“The proposal, which would have been worth billions of dollars, was announced last year with a landmark alliance between longtime anti-oil environmentalists and the oil company. The environmental groups signed a confidential agreement to lobby for the deal in exchange for promises from the Houston-based company, including billions in revenue for the state, thousands of acres of land and a commitment to end its local drilling by 2022.”

Of course The State Lands Commission voted against Plains Exploration & Production Co.'s request to expand drilling off Platform Irene in the Santa Barbara Channel.

But somehow California officials think that making marijuana legal will solve their problems. The video posted warned of the social costs and the possibility of violence from drug lords. What they fail to mention is the recently reported link between marijuana and testicular cancer.

“Young men who began using marijuana as adolescents or who smoke pot at least once a week appear to be twice as likely to develop testicular cancer as those who never used the drug.

The association, as reported by researchers at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, was strongest with nonseminoma, an aggressive, fast-growing subtype of testicular cancer that typically strikes men between ages 20 and 35.

"It's not just that you develop testicular cancer, but you develop a worse type of testicular cancer," said Dr. Glen Justice, director of the cancer center at Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center in Fountain Valley, Calif., who was not involved with the study.” - Los Angeles Times February 16, 2009

I am sure there are many sane, critical thinkers, in California. It is too bad your voice is always drowned out by people who do not think through the consequences of their decisions. I do not shed one tear for California. It seems they are just harvesting what they sown for so many years.

  3. "You have to wonder what the people running California are smoking! Here is a state on the verge of bankruptcy and their big plan is too get everybody stoned!"

This is a scare tactic and nothing more. People still have the choice of whether or not to get stoned.

"California is sitting with billions of dollars in revenue just off its coast. The International Herald Tribune carried a United Press International story on Jan. 30, 2009 indicating an agreement between some environmental groups and oil companies to begin offshore drilling."

Oil is not a good source of revenue because it is not clean energy and corporations will be the ones drilling, not the state government; they will not get all of the profit. They should cut spending, not find more ways to gain revenue.

And again, about the cancer, it is your choice to smoke so if you get cancer it is your own fault. If someone wants to die let them die, I won't miss them.
